KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education: High school graduate or equivalent; Associate’s degree or college coursework or equivalent work experience preferred.

Experience: 2-3 years of related experience. Paralegal Certificate and experience with IP docketing systems preferred.

1. Excellent and strong reading comprehension skills – this position heavily involves dense or technical communications documents, and the incumbent must be able to comprehend and effectively summarize such communications and documents for IP team and for IP team’s docketing system.
2. Advanced Microsoft Outlook skills, especially with managing calendars, scheduling meetings on behalf of IP attorneys, and incorporating teleconference or web-meeting information into communications.
3. Requires knowledge of document formats of a legal nature such as trademark, patents, and copyright applications, POAs, IP Licenses, IP Assignments, Customs recordations, contracts, briefs, summonses, complaints, and motions.
4. Must understand technical legal terminology; knowledge of IP terminology is a plus.
5. Must have excellent grammar, writing, and proofing skills.
6. Excellent adaptability.
7. Ability to multitask, organize and prioritize numerous tasks – the IP team has a voluminous docket of matters, and the incumbent must have the ability multitask, prioritize adapt to changes, and organize their tasks and matters to effectively accomplish the IP team’s objectives.
8. Excellent PC skills.
9. Requires knowledge of word processing software and other organization software programs.
10. Advanced word-processing skills (manipulates link and embedded functions, macros).
11. Intermediate spreadsheet skills (link and embedded data).
12. May prepare routine database reports.
13. Advanced graphics skills (edit clip art, link or embedded objects).
14. Must be able to prepare presentations.
15. Coordinates appointments without approval.
16. Excellent communication skills required to interact with various departments, all levels of management, and external contacts, including outside counsel.
17. Anticipation skills required.
18. Must be able to handle extremely sensitive and/or confidential information.
