Job Summary:

Oversees the Corporate Environmental, Health and Safety department. Sets the vision and strategic direction for the EHS organization across the Mary Kay enterprise. Develops, measures, and monitors EHS benchmarks, metrics, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to meet company-wide goals and drive best in class results. Directs a robust EHS audit program to demonstrate compliance with all laws and regulations and serves as a lead auditor for EHS compliance audits of MK sites. Leads the OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) certification for US Mary Kay sites; establishes the program framework and develops the implementation strategy. Establishes and facilitates employee incident management protocols and return to work policies. Accountable for the execution of the company’s environmental stewardship initiatives.

About the Role:

  • Oversees the Corporate EHS department and advises compliance with EHS regulatory requirements for all Mary Kay sites worldwide. Collaborates with senior leaders and executives to establish EHS policies and compliance goals for the Supply Chain in the US and international markets. Works to align operational aspects with EHS priorities and regulatory requirements to create a robust EHS culture. Interacts with top-level management as the EHS representative to carry out company initiatives and business objectives.
    • Establishes EHS KPIs and goals based on company performance data and trends. Secures software tools and resources that effectively collect and allow for evaluation of EHS analytics. Interfaces with senior leadership to communicate EHS program performance, compliance strategies, and regulatory changes or issues.
  • Leads, identifies, and recommends programs necessary to maintain participation in OSHA’s VPP. Directs all VPP initiatives and serves as the liaison between OSHA and the company. Responsible to maintain all necessary documentation and prepare the organization for OSHA’s on-site review.
    • Serves as the EHS Champion for VPP Safety Element Teams as assigned. Provides guidance, training, and support to VPP Element Team members to ensure the goals/objectives of the team are accomplished. Works in conjunction with the entire EHS team to provide procedural guidance to site leadership regarding the VPP.
  • Manages employee safety incidents for designated departments. Conducts Tier 1 incident investigations, manages the incident corrective action plan, and maintains employee incident documentation. Works with department leadership and/or Human Resources regarding adverse safety behaviors and trends that impact the work environment.
    • Supports Human Resources with management of employee work injury claims by supervising work restrictions to facilitate, accommodate, and return employees to full time assignments within their job scope. Participates in investigatory activities conducted by the worker’s compensation carrier and/or OSHA. Responsible to maintain OSHA 300 Logs for US MFG/R&D site. Conducts training for other US sites on how to maintain OSHA 300 Logs.
    • Assists with the setup and review of external occupational health clinic service contracts and protocols for work-related injury management.
  • Member of the Corporate EHS Audit Team. Leads EHS audits of Mary Kay facilities to ensure workplace conditions comply with applicable local, state, and federal EHS standards and ensures that all applicable and required records are prepared and maintained. Inputs audit findings in the electronic audit system, assigns action items to the appropriate personnel, and tracks status to closure.
    • Conducts routine walkthroughs of designated areas at the US MFG/R&D facility to proactively check compliance with EHS regulatory requirements, evaluates employee concerns, and/or corrects any immediate issues. Participates in special projects as the EHS representative related to designated areas as needed.
  • Manages EHS regulatory programs as assigned to ensure compliance with requirements. Develops training material and conducts employee training as needed. Responsible to maintain records associated with the designated programs. Tracks costs associated with program management. Assists with developing new or updated EHS procedures based on regulatory changes, work area modifications, and/or employee or management feedback.
  • Monitors industry and regulatory EHS compliance issues and trends. Responsible to research and keep informed of developments related to EHS compliance regulations and issues that impact the Company. Serves as a technical resource in the development of strategies to influence the legislative process. Cultivates and maintains working relationships as appropriate with trade associations, government agencies, and professional peers to remain current on pending legislation, court rulings, and industry plans for compliance.
    • Member of the Sustainability Leadership Team (SLT) that creates company sustainability initiatives and develops the strategy for company Executive Team approval.
  • Sets the Corporate EHS budget and establishes spending goals based on company financial trends and analysis.
  • Serves as the primary liaison with the Global Business Continuity Leader as the Business Continuity Coordinator for the development and maintenance of EHS business continuity plans.
  • Serves as the lead EHS representative on activities related to inspections conducted by non-EHS regulatory authorities i.e. FDA, Homeland Security, TABC, or TDH. Partners with respective department leadership to assist with site readiness for these regulatory inspections and supports completion of findings as needed.
  • This job requires on-site work at a Mary Kay facility.

Skills and Experience:

Education: Bachelor/University Degree

Experience: 7+ years plus 2+ years supervisory all in employee health and safety/environmental affairs

Additional Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of local, state, and federal EHS (OSHA, EPA) regulatory requirements and industry standards. Ability to implement and manage EHS programs in a global environment.
  • Solid proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Must be able to quickly learn new technology/software to pull data, create reports, and/or prepare training materials and classes.
  • Effectively manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Excellent planning and prioritization skills with the ability to multi-task and adapt.
  • Must have excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication (oral and written) skills. Ability to effectively communicate ideas and properly describe problems and solutions. Able to communicate complex and technical information in a way that audiences can quickly understand the issues and opportunities.
  • Evaluate issues, define requirements, and implement action plans to accomplish organizational goals.
  • Interact effectively with peers and all levels of management.
  • Must be detail-oriented, well organized, and possess the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Experience working with budgets and financial data.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in group process/facilitation. Must have the ability to lead teams, including cross-functional teams, and present ideas and gain consensus and support.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with peers and all levels of management.
  • Ability to perform duties with judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Domestic and international travel required approximately 25% of time.
