About the Role

Develops and directs content and channel strategy for the Company's key sales force communication vehicles. This communications are designed to inform, engage, and drive activity and sales and team building; aligning with Team US strategies ensuring the right content is shared effectively and at the right time. Partners with teams across the Company to ensure alignment with Company strategy and initiatives and collaborates with Director Marketing, VP Sales and Marketing and the Sales team to develop and execute a comprehensive plan for Mary Kay online, mobile and print strategies. As part of the US leadership team, participates in strategic communication planning of informational, motivational, urgent and sensitive communication to all levels of the independent sales force in a timely, cost-effective manner to support overall Company sales and marketing goals. Provides direction regarding tactical execution of strategies to Sales Force Communications and Integrated Communications. Through strategic communications, helps the independent sales force effectively manage the changing business environment. Accountable for the development all marketing campaign planning for key initiatives. Leads the channel team in planning, editing, and producing all sales force communications vehicles, including but not limited to National NewsNotes, Directors Memo, WYNK, Applause, MK News, and the Closed Facebook Channel. Leads Campaign planning and Web merchandisers.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overall channel strategy. Responsible for creating editorial plans across all communications channels, providing story direction for writers and coordinating content across the primary sales force publications and cross-promoting content on the InTouch community. Plans content and assigns writers across all channels to create efficiencies for the Mary Kay independent sales force audiences. Provides direction with editorial feedback, photography and artwork needs to writers and creative team. Ensure messaging is aligns with US strategy map and gives the sales force direction and tops on how to be successful running their businesses. Reviews and ensures compliance with delivery and routing deadlines across all e-publications and video scripts. Responsible for driving overall creative direction and design, working in conjunction with Creative Services partners.

  • Leads Campaigns/ Account Management team to partner with U.S. Marketing, Total Rewards, Sales Education, Sales Development to create communication plans for campaigns, contests and promotions. Works with creative services account managers to initiate creative process and to obtain InTouch web pages, videos and copy for US content.

  • Leads and manages the U.S. online merchandising and commerce strategy that supports the Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant (back office) or consumers (Mary Kay.com/Personal Website). This role is responsible for strategic planning, implementation, and management of our best-in-class visual site merchandising and online customer experience. Through the optimization of promotions, product merchandising, onsite search, navigation, cross-sells, upsells this role is critical in our efforts to maximize sales, conversion, site productivity and improve customer experience.

  • Oversight for US sales force crisis communication, partnering with internal project teams and/or Corporate Communications to determine scope, scale, and potential impact of the crisis. This involves working with US executive leadership to determine strategy and narrative. Leads the team in the collection, processing, and dissemination of information required to address the crisis situation. Provide strategic direction and writing support to Sr. Managing Editor of crisis communication. Writes crisis responses on behalf of US executive leadership team, as appropriate.

  • Obtains feedback regarding published information, potential topics and responds to informational inquiries by contacting the independent sales force. Elicits sales force feedback via the Analytics team to adjust and refine content plans accordingly for each publication on a consistent basis.

  • Manages team of communications channel personnel to support US publications. Provides ongoing coaching and development of US channel team ensuring the necessary skills are in place to support the work. Meets with team members on a regular basis providing timely feedback and coaching for success, with the completion and deliverance of performance reviews.

  • Leads and coordinates focus groups and surveys consisting of ISDs and IBCs to understand communication content needs. Acts on feedback provided and uses to develop content and design. Leads editorial and creative team in implements feedback that continually improves publications and gives sales force what they need and want to run their businesses. Works with analytics team to measure readership trends adjust and refine content plans accordingly for each publication on a consistent basis.

  • Identifies and stays abreast of current publication trends training and independent research. Applies fresh ways of executing and delivering content to the sales force. Presents new ways of approaching publications, while remaining flexible and solutions-oriented.

  • This job requires on-site work at Mary Kay's Global Corporate Headquarters in Addison, TX.

 

What You’ll Need to Be Successful

  • Experience: 7+ years in Corporate Communications, Crisis Communications, Agency/Marketing or related field. 

  • Supervisory Experience: 5+ years

  • Education: Bachelor/University Degree in Journalism, English, or Communications

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills required to interface with the sales force, employees and executives to effectively plan, write, edit and obtain feedback regarding published information and potential topics.

  • Proven ability to leverage Workfront or similar work management platforms to oversee multiple projects, optimize workflows, and drive accountability across cross-functional teams.

  • Previous supervisory experience required to effectively supervise staff and direct the efforts of free-lance writers, creative and production-related personnel.

  • Travel required approximately 10% of work time to attend Company special events.

  • Must have good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Word in order to prepare articles, presentations, etc.
