Conducts stability studies, performs chemical analysis, and/or develops analytical test methods for raw materials and/or bulk products. 


1. Technical Rigor

• Develops and validates analytical test methods and trains other laboratory personnel in the QC or PI labs on new techniques and methodologies.

• Remains abreast of current developments within the field of analytical chemistry and technology advances utilizing instrumentation to provide optimum analytical services.

• Operates and maintains instruments as required.

• Provides technical guidance regarding work methods and use of lab equipment.

• Troubleshoots equipment and method issues.

• Monitors incoming requests daily and makes decisions on scheduling changes and adjusts workload and resources accordingly to ensure project timeline commitments are met. 50%

2. Continuous Impovement

• Solves problems related to work efficiencyand communicates sample flow and testing between the team. 

• Identifies laboratory and system process improvements

• Evolves the work to meet the needs of the growing Cosmetic industry

• Stays aware of improvements to instruments and technologies necessary to perform the work in the lab. 25%

3. Communication

• Responsible for Product Integrity Lab contracts and vendors.

• Manages expenditures from contracts/vendors and communicates budget impact to Manager.

• Interfaces with both internal and external partners to Mary Kay

• Coordinates the hand off of samples between various internal labs. 20%

4. Project Ownership

• Attends project meetings, writes reports, and makes risk assessments on stability results. 

• Responsible for signing off on viability of a product based on technical data.

• Recommends and designs stability study protocols.

• Reviews in-coming stability submissions and provides instructions to Laboratory Technicians and Assistant Scientists concerning procedures and study lay-out.

• Responsible for meeting business critical testing deadlines, associated with bulk, package, micro, and raw material studies. 5%

In addition to the above, incumbent is expected to meet the required competencies for this position as defined in the competency profile.


Education  Bachelor’s degree in the sciences  (Chemistry, Biology?) Chemistry

Experience 3 years of experience, or Master’s degree with 1 year of experience.

1. Experience with the following instrumental techniques desired: GC, HPLC, UV/VIS and/or other spectroscopic methods, thermal analysis, rheology, and microscopy.

2. Must have strong interpersonal skills in order to work effectively in a team environment.

3. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required in order to interface with various levels of personnel and to prepare formal written reports.

4. Must be able to provide solutions to a wide range of difficult challenges.  Solutions should be imaginative, thorough, and practical.
