Central Weigh Technician
JOB SUMMARY
Under direct supervision, follows written specifications, GMP’s and in compliance with FDA regulations, supports production plan through the accurate weighing and dispensing of raw materials for bulk production, contract production, and development of new products. Helps maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts and inventory adjustments. Contributes to ensuring safe working practices are followed and contributes ideas to simplify and standardize the workplace. Shares ownership in achieving world-class performance and continuous improvement of production. Accountable for helping to achieve strategies and goals of becoming the world class, low cost/high-quality producer of choice.
ABOUT THE ROLE
- Weighs raw materials for bulk production, contract production, and development of new formulas according to batch specifications using electronic digital scales, mechanical arms, drum lifts and/or physically lifting. Calculates and predetermines the size of the container associated with the volume of contents to be used and measured within 1% per each material weighed. Follows Good Manufacturing Practices to support production requirements. Operates a forklift to transfer raw materials to storage and weighing areas. Weighs raw materials for Operations, Internationals, R&D and Process Development.
- Performs cycle counts, inventory adjustments, palletizing and anchoring during the weighing process to maintain inventory accuracy. Utilizes Mary Kay Business Systems for analysis and reporting related to inventory actions including but not limited to case counts, cycle counts, status, location, printing efficiency tracking sheets, creating labels, inventory accuracy, and troubleshooting raw material.
- Inspects all equipment, racks and facilities for damage, proper operation, and cleanliness reporting same to the Team Lead and Central Weigh Coordinator for corrective action. Actively participates and contributes constructively in team meetings, related discussions, or problem solving initiatives. Follows established safe working practices and procedures. Wears required PPE (personal protective equipment) at all times. Performs daily GMP/Safety Audits of the area and follows established GMP guidelines for daily tasks to insure compliance with both GMP’s and safe work practices. Promotes continuous improvement by proactively sharing ideas and issues with management to assist in eliminating waste, improving productivity and promoting safety. Follow GDP guidelines.
- Performs activities, such as assisting Central Weigh Coordinator, sorting tickets, palletizing, anchoring, and performing returns etc. Participates in lean manufacturing events such as 6S and other continuous improvement activities. Assists team members as needed and watches out for their safety.
- Weighs raw materials for International shipments requiring special handling and packaging. Checks part numbers, expiration dates, mode of transportation, proper labeling and batch codes for effectiveness and loss prevention.
- Performs bulk processing operations as needed.
Full-time employment
Work Hours - 10 hrs/day - Monday - Thursday (40 hrs/week)
Work schedule - 2:00 AM - 12.30 AM

Experience: 1+ years
Field of Experience: 1 year of experience working in the areas of cosmetic, food, and/or pharmaceutical Manufacturing environments. Experience operating a forklift is preferred.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Skills & Abilities
- Must have basic math skills, as demonstrated by passing a math test, and ability to use metric system required in order to weigh raw materials according to batch specifications. Must be able to perform data entry, basic computer skills and weigh raw materials. Must possess the manual dexterity to measure raw materials and use measuring equipment (i.e. scales, mechanical arms, drum lifts).
- Ability to access and understand the Materials Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for items used in Central Weigh.
- Ability to frequently move 50-70 lbs. and push/pull in order to move drums and bags of raw materials.
- Ability to operate a forklift in order to transfer raw materials to storage and weighing areas as well as any other mechanical material handling equipment, safely and efficiently.
- Must be able to stand on feet frequently in order to weigh raw materials; must be able to stoop, crouch, kneel, climb, and walk frequently in order to carry and weigh raw materials, maintain racks, and locate raw materials. Must be familiar with process of weighing, staging and storing of hazardous material.
- General knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles such as 65S and , problem solving, and WPO are desired.
- Must demonstrate the ability to communicate daily issues to Supervisor and peers effectively.
- Shift or schedule change may be necessary due to changing business needs.
- Must be able to pass the Respiratory fitting test.
