Directs and develops all Packaging Operation business units (Packaging, Packaging Maintenance, Cell Engineering, Contract Labor Services, Operations Cell Budget, Headcount, Safety, Quality and Production Planning) functions related to the manufacture of Mary Kay, Inc. products consistent with Company Safety, Cost, Service, Quality, Environmental and Cultural goals. Accountable for creating vision and driving the correlated strategies and initiatives of becoming the world class, low cost, high quality producer of choice.

  • Directs the functions associated with the manufacture of cosmetic products including Packaging, Packaging Maintenance, Planning, Engineering, Employee Safety, and Product Quality. Monitors, reviews, and analyzes and ultimately directs the methods, materials, machines, and manpower used throughout Manufacturing Operations and institutes required behavioral and process revisions to continually standardize and simplify work, stabilize the process, and improve efficiencies and cost per unit. Oversees all areas within Packaging Operations & Cell Engineering to ensure safety and quality control has the highest priority in every step of the manufacturing process. Ensures compliance with GMP, OSHA, EPA and other pertinent industry regulations governing the manufacturing operations. Resolves issues regarding deviation from quality, safety, and environmental standards in all phases of the manufacturing process.
  • Directs cell engineering function to ensure that manufacturing processes are efficient and optimized by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials with consideration to planning workflow, space constraints and equipment layout; confers with equipment vendors; solicits observations from operators; improves manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
  • Selects, trains, develops, and motivates a subordinate staff to ensure quality, service, flexibility, safety, effective equipment design, regulatory compliance (FDA, OSHA, TDH, EPA, etc.) and cost controls throughout the manufacturing process. Confers daily with the staff and receives information from systems which monitor and report on quality, cost, inventory status, productivity, downtime, and accident rates in order to remain abreast of significant change activities and provide counseling and solutions as required to keep Packaging Operations and Cell Engineering within established standards and procedures. Ensures Company policies are interpreted and applied consistently and fairly throughout Operations & Engineering. Refers decisions regarding policy changes that may impact other departments to the Plant Manager.
  • Utilizes industry best practices to define and develop long range production objectives to meet overall Corporate, Brand, and Commercialization and Research & Development goals. Exercises a collaborative relationship with these functions to ensure uninterrupted service to the markets. Maintains open communication with departmental and executive management regarding progress toward goals and any changes within Packaging Operations and Engineering. Provides strategic planning and visionary direction to achieve goals and improve processes for all Mary Kay owned sites and Central Distribution Centers while adhering to the Mary Kay culture. Interacts with Mary Kay Inc. executives to align strategic plans with the Company’s’ overall business objectives. Plays a supportive role in manufacturing automation projects including research, providing recommendations, developing business plans and other tasks.
  • Collaborates with multiple Finance departments (Corp. Accounting & Treasury, Internal Audit & Risk Management, and Corp. Tax) in developing efficiency strategies to ensure the plant meets production goals and standards at minimal manufacturing costs with processes and functions that are aligned to company-directed compliance policies. Approves multiple department annual operating and capital budgets and monitors expenditures to ensure the effective and efficient use of human, machine and material resources.

Experience:  10+ years
Supervisory Experience:  5+ years
Field of Experience:  Production operations management or supply chain management to include LEAN manufacturing methodologies and best practices, manufacturing accounting, ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), and warehouse management.

Education:  Bachelor/University Degree
Education Focus:  Bachelor’s degree in Technical Discipline (or equivalent) or Business; MBA preferred.

  • Must have excellent leadership and change management skills in order to lead the organization through process, administrative, and/or behavioral improvements. 
  • Must have knowledge of manufacturing accounting principles.
  • Must have keen management skills in order to cost-effectively meet operational objectives and capital expenses and ensure product quality.
  • Must have demonstrated human relations skills to successfully resolve operational problems and human relations concerns.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills in order to interact effectively with subordinate staff and senior and executive leaders. On-call 24 hours per day for the trigger process.
