Job Description
With a geographically diverse and dispersed employee population in need of consistent, on-demand communications, the Senior Editor/Writer, Global Employee Media and Events tells the story of the Mary Kay employee experience through newswriting, newsgathering and strategic communications solutions. Using all means of media - from video to digital newsletters, to web communications, to face-to-face events, the Senior Editor/Writer, Global Media and Events supports the development of Mary Kay corporate employees, resells them on their decision to work at Mary Kay, as well as strengthening the Mary Kay culture and strategic initiatives around the world.
 

  • Project manages and serves as news producer for employee communications video projects 
    • Working under the direction of Manager, Global Employee Communications and Recognition, project manages and produces global videos. Participates in global editorial planning, maintains key deliverables during the video production process, writes and edits scripts or acquires transcripts as needed, collaborates with global subsidiaries to produce viewer-submitted video segments, coaches talent for on screen success, and works hand-in-hand with AV editors during pre- and post-production to ensure videos are show is delivered on time and on budget. Takes the lead in the production of the MKTalks video program.   • Writes, edits and monitors communication for all internal Mary Kay web communications; serves as co-intranet Web Master, ensuring new pages are updated, broken links are fixed, and site is maintained for optimal employee experience.
    • Participates in the formalized, global editorial planning process by pitching story ideas and staying connected to global partners. Brings feature stories/human interest stories to life by writing, editing, and/or obtaining photography for publication on InsideMK.
    • Serves as editor for the Weekly Announcement digital newsletter; Writes and edits news stories and corporate announcements for the InsideMK internal website, maintaining a fresh and engaging tone and honoring the HR brand identity in all “routine” communication touchpoints, especially in the revitalized email protocol process. Shares in the departmental responsibility, via a rotating schedule, of monitoring the EECOMS email box and either writing, or disseminating writing assignments. Working under the direction of Manager, Global Employee Communications and Recognition, participates as a subject matter communications expert in the redesign of the employee intranet. Pulls metrics and uses data wisely to keep communications efforts moving toward more employee engagement and communication success.
  • Strategic Communications planning and execution
    • Working independently will serve as a subject matter communications expert to key corporate partners. Senior Editor/Writer, Global Employee Media and Events, will immerse themselves into the communication planning process required and requested by our corporate partners as they collaborate to launch key initiatives, such as:  HR communication planning, Benefits, Wellness, Organizational Development &Corporate Initiatives, and R3/Manufacturing
  • Strategic Communications Event Planning
    • Working under the direction of Manager, Global Employee Communications and Recognition, plays a key role in the planning, development and execution of the Employee Meeting. Tasks include strategy articulation, program development, entertainment selection, venue selection and acquisition, speaker selection and coaching, plus other items to be determined. Assists the Recognition team on key employee events such as Circle of Honor, Surprise and Delight programs, and pitches in as needed to ensure success of all departmental programs.
  • This job requires on-site work at a Mary Kay facility. 

Skills & Experience
Experience: 3+ years in this field
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English or Communications or equivalent.

 

  • Ability to effectively plan, edit, coordinate and supervise the production of employee website/publications/and project manage video programs.
  • Excellent written communications skills to write and edit articles and employee publications, write and edit online articles and email announcements as well as author feature blogs and create social content.
  • Excellent oral communications skills to interface with employees and executives.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Publisher as well as Live Writer and Acrobat.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and HTML editors such as Dreamweaver, web content management and principles of managing a website to prepare articles, create interest and deliver news in an efficient but entertaining manner.
  • Project management skills, including the ability to manage simultaneous activities, track different projects/tasks and work towards and meet established deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of photography and video management tools such as Photoshop and Premier to prepare online articles, presentations, videos etc.
