JOB PURPOSE
Participates in the strategic development and creation of fully integrated public relations, marketing, and advertising programs for the Company. Under the guidance of Manager, develops product PR, integrated marketing and advertising programs primarily focused on products with oversight of sales force communications which can include: public relations, sponsorships, contests, sweepstakes, sampling, influencer outreach, local market events, custom creative development, video content, merchandising, Sales Force tools and experience based programs to positively elevate consumer awareness/perception of the Mary Kay brand, products and independent sales force thus making it easier for the independent sales force to grow their Mary Kay business. Manages multiple agencies and vendors that support fully integrated PR, advertising and marketing partnerships.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Manages and executes integrated marketing initiatives. Develops plans that integrate across all consumer- and consultant-facing programs and which support the company’s business goals. Could include, but is not limited to, programs related to product PR, influencer outreach, sponsorships, promotions, sampling, grass roots events, branded entertainment and cause marketing.
· Independently works with Creative, Product Marketing, Communications, Social Media and Sales Force support teams to identify and develop a consistent, brand-enhancing strategy for integrated partnerships including identification of products, obtaining rights to images, development of copy and scripts, development of content for microsites, coordination of makeup artists, shipment of products for use at shoot and reviewing and approving final creative— dependent upon the initiative/activation at hand.
· Leads the coordination and execution of U.S.-based sponsorships, promotions, experiential events for consumers. Responsible for planning and organizing on-site logistics, working with internal and external partners to create on-site experience, identification and shipment of products to sample and/or display, coordination of makeup artists, independent sales force and review and approve final creative.
· Leads the communication of integrated marketing programs to Mary Kay independent sales force and employees through various written and on-site communication channels. Drafts communications for pertinent media and advertising information for inclusion in Sales Force publications or sites. Manages any media-related information on Mary Kay InTouch, InsideMK, and MaryKay.com.
· Leads all U.S.-based product publicity efforts, including but not limited to media events, deskside appointments, product mailers, PR fact sheet development, tracking and report of press coverage, etc.
· Leads and executes all media relations efforts surrounding annual Company Conferences, including identifying storytelling angle, development of press materials, training of executive spokespeople as well as sales force spokespeople, onsite interview facilitation, monitoring and tracking of coverage and reporting of coverage after event(s).
· Develops and maintains relationships with key external partners, including but not limited to PR agencies, makeup artists, stylists, expert panelists, magazine editors, bloggers, online channel editors and broadcast editors. Provides day-to-day management of the agencies of record and provides them direction on program execution. Ensures agencies are provided with necessary content and samples and responds to their inquiries. Acts as the key liaison between the agency and the company on tactical issues related to Mary Kay products. Elevates agency issues to manager when necessary.
· Develops metrics and targets to evaluate success of programs as project owner. Recommends changes or adjustments of programs based upon the metrics.
· Accountable for managing project spending within planned budget. Works with team administrative assistant to ensure accuracy of invoicing and payments, and reconciles budget monthly and quarterly.
· This job requires on-site work at a Mary Kay facility.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Education – Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or Public Relations
Experience – 5 years of experience in Marketing or Public Relations
· Requires expert level of knowledge in advertising, PR and integrated marketing needs and approaches for cosmetics and/or for an independent sales force. At a minimum must demonstrate an awareness of the differences in advertising and PR needs for this industry vs. another. |
· Must have strong people management skills to work with outside agency partners and vendors. Must be able to provide concise, clearly defined position of Mary Kay products and corporate image in order to assist with successful media and PR campaign execution. |
· Job requires the ability to multi-task and to independently develop and implement solutions. |
· Superior verbal and written communication skills required to effectively communicate with top management, media and the independent sales force. |
· Requires strong business writing skills, plus proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Computer skills, such as database searches are also important. |
· Requires judgment, poise and expertise to speak with and to represent the company to national media partners |
· Domestic overnight travel up to 25% of the time required. |
· Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred. |
